So? What is the big deal? Weed is the least of modern society's concern. I agree, legalize it. Alcohol is legal... meh.

you cited those things so, you win.

I'm not going to try and argue with that, cause honestly, yes, these things make you stupid just as rapidly.

and those things are legal.

I see no reason to strip him of his medals. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's a rule in the Olympics that says 'if medal winner is caught smoking an unknown substance out of a bong, he/she shall be stripped of his/her medals'. Also, I don't live in the US, but would someone be thrown in jail if someone brought a picture to authorities of them smoking out of a bong with no evidence that they were smoking marijuana? I really doubt it.

Anyways, if it's just a picture of him smoking from a bong, who said marijuana was even involved? It could have been, but without any solid evidence, the police really can't do anything except possibly get a warrant to search his house or something.

Actually, there is a rule like that. But apparently he has taken over 1500 drug tests before and during competition and never failed a single one.

and no, someone would not be thrown in jail if a picture was sent to authorities of a person smoking weed.

hell, i could go up to a cop right now and say "officer, i was drunk as sin while driving last weekend" and there's not a damn thing they could do about it. there's that thing called evidence which is needed to convict someone, and neither a blurry picture nor hearsay from partygoers counts.

on the other hand, it's pretty safe to say that phelps was a dumbass for doing that out in public, seeing as he is not just an american hero, but a role model for many around the world (do it in the privacy of your own home??). the ridicule and humiliation alone should be enough punishment.

Default USA Swimming suspends Phelps for 3 months

http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news?slu...v=ap&type=lgns
So he can't compete(in the U.S.) for 3 months. Kellogg Co. won't renew his sponsorship contract.

LMAO at canthan white....weren't you the person that made that GW rap on some thread around here??

OT: kellogg sucks anyway, they will probably announce layoffs soon. and 3 months off from competition is a slap on the wrist, it's about the same amount of time he'll need to disappear for a bit and let all of this mess quiet down.

Such bs getting a 3 month ban and losing sponsors. I just love how he wins that many medals and smokes, really shows it doesn't affect you at all.

Just former? Obama used marijuana and cocaine too. Guess that means Phelps can still be president, huh?

I think phelps is even better now.

I want to give him another medal!
Why is anyone angry about this, like at all?
I would be more sad if i saw him drinking some bad beer.

Really, if someone took a picture of him speeding (breaking the law)
Would sponsors still cut him and people still compain?
I don't make a distinction there.

I need some 'shooping skills here to explain my point.
Phelps wearing some 'green' medals )

agreed

people are mad because they have this phobia of weed that it will totally destroy your life or something, when really alcohol (as we have seen before with his DUI back in '04) has the worse reputation.

the most (and really, only) unfortunate thing is that he was dumb enough to get caught on camera smokin'. let's think about this for a second - i just won more gold medals than any olympian in history, nearly everyone in the world either knows my name or has seen my picture. i think i'll go to this party with lots of people and smoke some weed.

dude....smoke that shit in the privacy of your own home where no one will see you. a small price to pay for being famous, but after a few hits you'll be too high to care.
